 Common European framework of reference

The Common European Framework of Reference (CEFR) for languages is a guideline to describe the proficiency level of language learners. It consists of the levels A, B and C, with each level subdivided in two groups: A1 and A2, B1 and B2, C1 and C2. The official names are basic user, independent user and proficient user, respectively. At level A you still need support and guidance when speaking. At level B you can get by independently in all kinds of daily situations. At level C you have reached a proficiency equal to that of a native speaker.
